When Darby agreed to be one of our Class of 2018 Reps she was still a Junior at Cary Grove and didn’t know the wonderful opportunity that awaited her. This past summer she attended UNC’s summer arts program and was chosen to study drama at their prestigious School of the Arts for her Senior Year! A huge honor!!
We had the opportunity to photograph Darby twice, once in the studio while she was still a Junior and again outside this summer. Both of her sessions were a total blast! She was a lot of fun to work with and very comfortable in front of the camera! We tried lots of different poses, expressions and ideas and even took some headshots she’ll be able to use for auditions.
We are so impressed with everything Darby has accomplished and expect great things from her in the future! Most of all we look forward to being able to say we knew her when!!
Check out these photos from Darby’s session and then check out what she had to say about her nFocus experience!
nFocus: How would you describe your photo shoots?
Darby: My shoots were comfortable, fun, expressive, and free!! I never felt embarrassed or weird striking poses or trying different facial expressions. It was an open and collaborative space to create fun, new ideas for the photo session. Every picture was unique and allowed me to express all of the different parts that make up me! Not to mention, I just felt free and happy to be there getting beautiful photos taken.
n: What was your favorite part of your photo shoots?
D: My favorite part of the shoots was being able to change outfits so that I could convey totally different styles and moods that represent me and my closet. Fashion is a total key to identity and the ability to bring different outfits to change into allowed me a lot of personal expression.
n:Some of your friends may want to have a friend take their senior photos, or their Mom’s friend with a nice camera. What would you say to them about your experience working with nFocus?
D: It’s so professional. The settings, backgrounds, lighting, poses, and just the whole experience! There’s nothing more satisfying and exciting than looking through all of your nFcous photos thinking, “I can’t even choose a favorite!”
n: Your Mom was at your shoot. Did you feel like it was a good bonding experience for the two of you?
D: My mom and I totally bonded through this experience. She loved watching me hit bold poses and step out of my comfort zone a little bit. Plus, we both got wonderful photos to admire together out of the deal.
n: Did the final photos turn out the way you had hoped?
D: Definitely. Each photo is so unique, individual, and shows who I am as a person SO well. These photos are so beautifully crafted and well done that I’m actually using some of them to serve as my acting headshots as I audition for college conservatories and different shows!
n: What did you like or dislike about your experience as a Model Rep?
D: I liked everything about the Model Rep program! If I could do it again, I would because it was that fun!
n: How would you describe your personal style?
D: I don’t like to tie myself down to one type of style. If something catches my eye, I grab it!! I basically just enjoy making loud statements with my outfit choices, plus, yellow is ALWAYS a good idea.
n: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
D: I see myself as a working actress playing roles both in television and film. Hopefully married and close to starting a family!
n: If you find yourself with an hour to spare, what do you like to do?
D: I love naps or just taking time to breath and meditate. Plus, any day I get to read and/or watch some Harry Potter is a great day.
n: Where would you most like to go to college?
D: University of North Carolina School of the Arts to get a BFA in acting! I attend the high school drama program there currently.
n: Favorite drink at Starbucks?
D: Basic, but a caramel frappe! Mmmmm…
n: If you had a superpower what would it be and why?
D: Invisibility for sure. I’m such a curious person so I could listen in on conversations and go see movies without having to pay!!
n: If a theme song played every time you walked in a room, what would it be?
D: Basically anything from Barbie’s Princess and the Pauper. It’s a great film, highly recommend, plus my friends all joke and call me Barbie.
n: Favorite three songs on your phone?
D: I really like simple, calming music, and some alternative to top it off. Holocene by Bon Iver, Perfect by Ed Sheeran, and Carried Away by Passion Pit.
n: Favorite band when you were 10?
D: My favorite band when I was 10 was The Killers! Many of their songs were on this PS4 game we had “Sing It!” which started my love for their cool and energetic sound.
