I’ve been doing a lot of studying over the last few years and all the hard work finally paid off when I opened a letter from Professional Photographers of America this month telling me I was now officially a Certified Professional Photographer!  Only 3% of photographers nationwide and 50 in the state of Illinois have been certified! To achieve the CPP designation I was required to submit a portfolio of my work to a panel of judges for their approval as well as pass a comprehensive written exam measuring technical expertise. Going forward I’ll be required to renew my credentials periodically by participating in continuing education programs and submitting work for critical evaluation.

What does all this mean to  you, the consumer? Certification helps you assure your photographer is maintaining his or her level of expertise and continuing to develop new skills and techniques that are going to make you look your best! So when you’re out there shopping photographers, make sure to ask them if they’re certified. You’ll be glad you did!
